Director's Note
Dear colleagues and students,
Two weeks have passed in the new semester and I hope you will find it timely to have some updates of the University’s IT environment and services. In this issue of Channel Newsletter, we are pleased to report the recent completion of the University’s new data center that is positioned as the new sustainable IT powerhouse supporting research, teaching and day-to-day operational needs. In line with the “Cloud-First” strategy, the new data center enables us to benefit from scalable high-performance computing for research and learning, at the same time leveraging a wide variety of cloud-based applications proliferating in the market. We highlight more comprehensive deployment of the Microsoft Office365 cloud-based services and migration to Windows 10, together with some updates of the development of the Internet-of-Things (IoT) and Application Programming Interface (API) infrastructure facilitating the development of modern and innovative applications, in support of building a sustainable smart campus together.
Last but not least, the annual user satisfaction survey was successfully conducted in Spring and very encouraging results are reported. I would like to take this chance to thank all of you for your continual support to our work, by first using our services and then letting us know how they can be improved. I wish you all a very productive and enjoyable new academic year ahead.
Samuel Kwan
