Windows 7 End-Of-Life and Migration to Windows 10
charles choy, HEAD OF CYBERSECURITY OPERATIONS
As you may know, Microsoft had announced that Windows 7 will reach End-of-Life on 14th Jan, 2020. After this date, cybersecurity updates for Windows 7 will no longer be available and users of Windows 7 will be at great risk.
According to the University's cybersecurity policy, systems running unsupported operating systems are not allowed to connect to campus network in order to protect the University's IT infrastructure as well as other users. Conceivably, these systems are exposed to high cybersecurity risks because they are the obvious and easy targets for hackers and cyber attackers. This is an essential safeguard measure for protecting all users of the campus network.
As such, in case your machines are still running Windows 7, please plan for the upgrade as soon as possible. ITSC has arranged information sessions for departmental Cybersecurity Coordinators (CSC) and provided technical consultation for the upgrade process. You may contact your CSC for details and seek help from our Service Desk.
In collaboration with Microsoft HK Limited, we are organising briefing sessions on Windows 10 (the latest operating system) and Office 365. Colleagues planning to upgrade to Windows 10 are encouraged to join the session to learn the new features of Windows 10, the difference between Windows 7 and Windows 10, how Windows 10 can fit your working style, and how Office 365 fits with Windows 10. Please stay tuned on our announcements. Meanwhile, more information about Windows 10 can be found at:
